How to Keep the House Clean All the Time

Aug 29, 2009 12:34 AM

Do you clean your house and the next day it's a mess? It's all about teamwork. If you live alone, things should be easier. Try to stay on top of everything in your household. Although this can be difficult for working people, it pays off in the long run.

Get the Kids Involved. Younger children will probably be more enthusiastic about helping, and it's good to encourage them at a young age. Older children (Around 7 and up) would rather play on their games console, or talk to their friends online. If this is the case, don't be harsh about it. Give them a chance to see you working so hard. Ask if they wouldn't mind doing a simple and quick job like taking out the trash, washing a few dishes, or cleaning out the hamster cage. If that fails, tell them they will have a week's allowance taken off them, and they can't go out with their friends for a week. Children and Pre-Teens are stubborn creatures, and need discipline sometimes. Teaching them to work, help out, take part and work in a team is a great way to give them a headstart in life. Surely, you can't do this all by yourself!

Start Small. Simple tasks, such as vaccuming the lounge, cleaning the counter tops, or getting the kids to tidy their room can all make for an easier lifestyle. When you have done a few small tasks, move on to bigger chores. Mowing the lawn, cleaning windows and mirrors, organizing bookshelves and similar chores help to keep everthing in order.

Set a Chore List. If you work for long hours during the day, and people stay at home, create a "Chore List." It's like a simple rota: At a certain time of day, one person that stays at home will do a chore. All chores that need to be done must be done on time, so when you arrive home the house will be neat and tidy, and ready to sit down in and watch that new drama on TV.

Give yourself a break! Whether it's a shopping spree, a night in front of the television, a walk on the beach, or just a lie in, you need to rest. Do something you enjoy. It could be every night, every weekend, or any time that suits you.

Reward the Family. After everyone worked so hard, they deserve a special treat. If you have young children, why not take them out to a theme park, or an ice cream parlour? Older children might prefer a baseball game, a sleepover, or a trip to the arcades. It might only be once a month, or every Saturday, but it will motivate everyone to keep the house shining.

Tips

  • Do your part. Tidy your room, and only your room. Let the children tidy their rooms to show that everyone has a part to play. Let everyone be responsible for themselves - for their own personal growth.
  • Keep Smiling. Hold your head up high and say you have a clean home!

Warnings

  • Don't let cleanliness take over your life. There may be more important things in life than keeping everything tidy, but it's a start.

    • Repeat this mantra: Most things will never get so dirty that they won't come clean.
